1 - Install Base-R and RStudio on your computer.

2 - Install additional packages

This workshop introduces you to several specialized R packages that you will have to install. Please run the following command in your R Console of RStudio:

install.packages(c("tidyverse", "patchwork", "ggthemes", "ggrepel", "viridis", "sf", "ggraph", "tidygraph", "gganimate", "plotly", "rmarkdown", "knitr"), dependencies = TRUE)

When you are asked whether to install packages from source, type in "n" and press Enter.

3 - Materials

All materials can be found on course page.

Please download the following project before the start of the course: project. Unpack it (double click) and move the folder “TheRBootcamp” to your Desktop or another folder of your choice.

4 - Visualization sketch

Please bring a data visualization sketch to the course. The sketch should contain a conceptual draft for a figure from your own work that you would like to improve and work on during the course. It should specify the data, the research question, the type of plot, the use of colors, the annotation, and so on. The sketch must either be hand-drawn (bring a digital photo) or created with design software (incl. Powerpoint or Keynote). If you find it difficult to come up with a sketch for your own work, feel free to create one for public data (e.g., from https://www.kaggle.com/datasets).
